Company Background

Webtide are the main developers of Jetty, the highly regarded open source Java web container and are experts in implementing scalable Web 2.0 solutions using Jetty and other Ajax technology.

Webtide engineers are core developers or contributors to Dojo Cometd, Apache Geronimo, Glassfish, Maven, ActiveMQ, Cargo, Agila, ServiceMix, Jetspeed, WADI, and a host of other open source projects. Webtide offers its worldwide clientele training, development, and support.

Management Team

Adam Lieber
Chief Executive Officer

Adam Lieber is the CEO of Webtide. Adam was a co-founder of Gluecode Software, one of the early open source software companies and delivered solutions to numerous industries and served as Gluecode's representative on OASIS. After Gluecode's acquisition by IBM, Adam ran worldwide sales for open source middleware for IBM.

Prior to Gluecode, Adam was at the IT-focused venture capital fund Mission Ventures.

Adam received his A.B. in Economics concentration, with Computer Science from Princeton University.

Greg Wilkins
Chief Technical Officer

Greg Wilkins is the Chief Technical Officer (CTO) and one of the founding CEO of Webtide. He was also a founder and CEO of Mort Bay Consulting.

Greg has deep knowledge of all facets of software development. He has, 22 years experience as a software developer, team leader, architect, trainer, and technical mentor in industry sectors ranging from telecommunications, finance, realtime computing to internet applications.

He is closely involved with the open source movement, being the creator of the Jetty web container, a co-founder of Apache Geronimo, and a committer or contributor to a number of other open source projects. Greg sits on the JCP Servlet Expert Group and is active in the Open Ajax Alliance.

Greg received his B.S. Computer Science Degree with 1st Class Honors from Sydney University, Australia.

Jan Bartel
Chief Engineer

Jan Bartel is the Chief Engineer and one of the co-founders of Webtide, and Mort Bay Consulting.

She has extensive industry experience as a team leader and consultant, working with java, J2EE, and other key related technologies. She is a contributor and committer to a number of open source projects in addition to Jetty, of which she is one of the project leaders.

During her 20 year career, she has delivered both client-side and server-side applications in industry sectors as diverse as online services, telecommunications, and banking and finance.

Jan received her B.A and M.A (Pass) degrees in Computer Science from Sydney University, Australia.

Jetty Runner
If you're looking for a fast and easy way to run your webapp, without needing to install and administer a Jetty distro, then look no further, the Jetty Runner is here! The idea of the Jetty Runner is extremely simple - run a webapp from the command line using a single jar and as much default configuration as possible:
  java -jar jetty-runner.jar my.war
Voila! Jetty will start on port 8080 and deploy the my.war webapp.

JSR-315 Needs YOU!
The expert group for JSR 315 (servlet-3.0) has come to a bit of an impasse regarding some new features for auto discovery of servlets and filters.   Some members of the EG have some security/flexibility concerns regarding these features, but others do not think the concerns  significant enough to warrant additional complexity in configuration options.
In order to resolve this impasse, the EG has decided to solicit more community feedback. So this is my biased blog soliciting that feedback.

Jetty 7.0.0pre0 released!
The trunk of jetty has undergone some substantial changes over the last couple of weeks.  In addition to jetty 7 now requiring a minimum version of jdk 1.5 and the default inclusion of the early servlet 3.0 spec, there have been a number of structural changes a bit more near and dear to my heart.  It leverages a bit more maven2!
